Nespresso, IFA 2016, Berlin

Quality and sustainability from the coffee bean to the capsule: this promise was the leitmotif of Nespresso’s presence at the 2016 IFA trade fair in Berlin. Designing the stand, Messerli therefore staged the story of the product’s origins.

In its communication at the 2016 IFA trade fair, Nespresso focused on explaining how the raw materials coffee and aluminium are handled. This retracing of the product’s origins was also to be reflected in the design of the stand. On the one hand, the idea of “origin” was expressed through the use of natural materials and on the other hand with various decorative features.

Large back-lit images and numerous real plants created the connection to coffee as a raw material. With leaves suspended above the central areas and a moss-covered vertical garden, nature proved an excellent source of decorative eye-catchers. Another special idea was to visually set apart the floor area of the product displays by covering it with pieces of bark.

On an exhibition space covering more than 630 square metres on two floors, the trade-fair stand offered several lounges and areas for meetings. In the consumer area, elaborately decorated shelving units that also served as displays provided all sorts of valuable information on Nespresso’s commitment to sustainability, from the cultivation of the coffee to the recycling of the aluminium capsules and the value of secondary aluminium.
