Swisscom (Schweiz) AG, Hauptbahnhof Zürich 2015
Last October, Swisscom organised a promotional event at Zurich main station to showcase its services, surprising commuters with a rather unusual battery charging service.
Demonstrating a service pledge in a believable way is no easy task, and it requires a company to work hard to pull it off. Swisscom took this idea literally, asking volunteer employees to generate electricity for Zurich commuters’ mobile phones.
Sitting on bikes fitted with an ergometer, they pedalled hard to generate energy that was then fed via a power generator into the mobile phones of visitors to the stand. While the Swisscom staff sweated buckets on the bikes, customers relaxed in the comfortable lounge or picked up some useful phone tips and tricks at the Swisscom Academy.
The Power Service Event was a huge success – and not just with the customers but with the Swisscom employees too. So many volunteered to take part that not even all of them could be included, and each cyclist’s turn on a bike had to be shortened.
The event concept was dreamt up jointly by Swisscom and the advertising agency Heimat Werbeagentur GmbH. The eye-catching stand design and construction at the main station were the work of Messerli.
Could your presence also do with an energy boost?

Swisscom
Interactive themed exhibition about smart data handling
Swisscom Dialog Arena, KKL 2019, Lucerne
Swisscom hosts the Swisscom Dialog Arena series of events every year. In Lucerne, Lausanne and Lugano, business customers, experts and partners come together to discuss their visions for the digital future. In this year’s event at Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Luzern, Swisscom presented groundbreaking talks and interactive experiences all focussed on the topic of data-driven business.
Swisscom demonstrated how companies, driven by data, can increase their competitiveness and further develop their services. In order to give attendees a better understanding of the topic outside of the presentations, Messerli transformed the networking area of the event hall in Lucerne into a themed exhibition with a lounge. Here, Messerli created areas with interactive content on topics such as «storing», «processing and analysing», «protecting» and «transporting» data. Each area surprised visitors with fascinating concepts and concrete real-world examples.
Themed exhibition with interactive content
On the topic of «protecting data», a live demonstration showed visitors how hackers move around the dark web and how quickly they can obtain access to sensitive corporate data. For the topic of «processing and analysing data», Swisscom used real-time crowd insights to demonstrate how quickly user data can be collected, analysed, and, with their help, sorted and visualised. Visitors stood in front of a large screen that was able to determine their ages and detect their mood using facial recognition technology.
In the centre of the exhibition area was a space where attendees could admire digital art from noow.art. Each work of art was paired with individually selected music. The trick was that you could only hear this music if you stood in the marked area under the «sound shower».
A successful collaboration that paid off
Messerli was responsible for the conception, the design and the implementation of the entire space to weave the various user experiences together in a compelling way. In addition to overall project management, Messerli also created the content for the various digital applications.
This event allowed Swisscom to position itself as an innovation leader and inspired trust and sparked interest from their customers. It demonstrated convincingly the role that data plays in the development of a company. Swisscom proved itself to be an experienced partner when it comes to handling data, and one that can help guide its clients to success in the digitalised world.
